Meadowland – in the mirror
•29 May, 2011 • Leave a CommentJosef Bernberg and Robin Tinglöf started playing rock music together in their teens. Growing older they experienced the onset of creative asphyxiation as the responsibilities of adulthood began taking their toll. Life had become mundane and a little bit too realistic. Music had lost its fascination, and the bands they were involved in tended to split up.
After a dry spell, they began to play together again, tentatively, in an attempt to recapture some of that earlier fascination for music. This led them to explore a different texture of sound, that turned out to be somewhat therapeutic.
Their current collaboration began about eight years ago as an informal song-writing workshop of sorts, void of expectations or demands. After some time they realised that they had unwittingly started a band.
They discovered Meadowland!
With no previous interest in, or experience of the acoustic genres, they both set out on a new journey of musical experimentation. It is this wanderlust and curiosity that gives the band its unique, soft, spacial quality, inviting listeners to inhabit nostalgic moodscapes.
Inspired by old black and white photos and imaginary storys Meadowland’s first EP ”I am the one to bring” was recorded in a studio north of Stockholm and the recording gave them the musical direction of the band. Especially the title song became the leading star for the project. This was back in 2004 …
2006 Meadowland produced two other EP-records and experienced a great flow in songwriting and in playing live.
At this time Christopher Anderzon (bass) and Henrik Ståhlberg (perc, drums) already had joined the band and coloured the sound with their impressive musical skills!

In 2006 hosted Meadowland their own music club in Stockholm called “Club Meadowland – the embassy” with invited guest artists like Thomas Järvheden (singer songwriter/comedian) and Cookies n Beans.
Those were the days! But unfortunately the club survived just for a short while…
Between 2006 and 2010 Meadowland continued to play live at music clubs all around Stockholm and Sweden and also for the Stockholm County Council at hospitals and medical facilities. During this time they were writing and recording songs for a full lenght album.
Henrik Åström (producer and sound engineer at A-stream production) helped the band to do the final recordings and mixing of the album in the summer of 2010. In August same year Meadowland featured on Swedish television’s channel 4 breakfast-show!
November 30th 2010 was finally the European release of the debut album Harbours! (Oaks of Mamre records)
“As the story goes, Bernberg and Tinglöf wanted to recapture their lost fascination for music. They were experiencing “the onset of creative asphyxiation as the responsibilities of adulthood began taking their toll.” We applaud these artists. They did not succumb to this ugly, criminal plight. Hopefully you won’t either.” –www.themuseinmusic.com“
Meadowland is a band sustained by friendship, dreams and a vested trust in following the music wherever it might lead.
